Vancouver Island Opera (VIO) is holding rehearsals this month in Parksville for their full length opera to be performed this November in Qualicum Beach.

The Opera is called L'Elisir d'Amore, a comic opera by Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti. The main roles are filled by professional singers from Vancouver and an orchestra of 26 professional musicians will also be part of the two performances this fall.

The rehearsals held Saturday, Sept. 10, are for chorus members, where singers as well as extras are needed. No previous experience is necessary, said artistic director Tatiana Vasilieva, only a love of singing, and all ages are needed.

“It’s a village scene so there should be all kinds of people, from children to older people,” she said.

Membership is $85 a year and tax receipts are available.

The rehearsals take place at the McMillan Arts Centre in Parksville from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 10. Dress rehearsal of the opera will happen Nov. 4 and performances will happen Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 6 at 2:30 p.m. at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre.
