Youth serious about a career in performing arts have the opportunity to showcase their talent and possibly go home with a scholarship.

The sixth Mosaic Youth Talent Showcase is having auditions this weekend, and co-producer of the show, country singer Beth Marie Anderson, said performers of all ages will really want to bring their A-game this year.

“It’s a showcase and at the same time we are going to be looking for people who shine and who really need the scholarship money,” she said. “And we’re going to be awarding a couple big scholarships rather than a bunch of little ones this year.”

Anderson performed in the first two Mosaic Talent shows and said the scholarships she received helped her attend the Victoria Conservatory of Music and helped with her singing lessons.

The show is put on by the Rotary Club of Parksville and the scholarships also come from the club and their sponsors.

Jazz vocalist Lauren Bush will be co-producing the show with Anderson this year, this being Bush’s third year in the role. She said not only will the scholarships be handled differently this year but she and Anderson will try and step it up a notch.

“It’s nice to collaborate with someone because I feel we can bounce ideas off each other and the show will be a little more polished,” she said.

Anderson agreed. “We really want this year to stand out, kind of go big or go home this year.”

Anyone 25 and under is encouraged to audition in any of the performing arts disciplines. Auditions will happen this Sunday, April 17 at the McMillan Arts Centre in Parksville (formerly the Oceanside Community Arts Council) from 1 to 4 p.m. Alternatively performers can audition at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Nanaimo on Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to book an audition time e-mail bethmarieanderson@gmail.com or call 250-240-3023.

The talent show will happen Friday, May 27 at Knox United Church in Parksville.
