Qualicum Beach held its first 'Celebration of Trees'  in recognition of National Forest Week & National Tree Days on Sept. 21.

A tree-planting event was held at the Qualicum Beach Community Park, organized by the Friends of the Qualicum Beach Forest (FQBF), a local environmental group. Three Gary Oak trees were planted by Qualicum Beach parks staff along the perimeter of the park.

The event was attended by Mayor Teunis Westbroek, along with councillors Anne Skipsey, Petronella Vander Valk and Jean Young.

Tree saplings were made available to the public with detailed planting instructions. Jay Smith of the FQBF said they look forward to the many benefits these additions to the town's tree canopy and urban forest  will provide in the coming years.
