Re: ‘$10.7M project stopped’ (PQB News, April 9)

Your front-page story was amusing to say the least.

After the high-paid experts and consultants spent an amazing amount of time surveying area H for the proper place to put a sewage disposal facility… downtown Bowser was selected for expansion and the 99 homeowners voted yes to get a sewer hook up for under $2,000 per home plus a monthly fee.

The system was designed to be expandable… but those 4,000 residents to whom it would expand to in the rest of Area H did not have the opportunity to vote and it was noted in your paper a while ago the cost for hooking up to those residents would be in the neighbourhood of some $30,000 per home.

I wonder why an in-camera meeting about public affairs was held on this subject? And the reason for pulling the plug on the project brings to mind; are these guys really as expert as they claim?

Your paper stated that due to scheduling and cost constraints involved the project was cancelled. One would think that the engineers and consultants would look far ahead and be sure to cover all necessary requirements before proceeding. The so-called Bowser Sewage Project was always much more than represented. Indeed it was an Area H project as development and expansion will be taking place for many years to come in the whole of the area.

The residents of Area H deserve more than how they have been treated by the RDN in this matter.
