The Mid-Island Stewardship Caucus recently held an appreciation event for Adam Walker, who served as MLA in the Parksville-Qualicum riding from 2020-2024. The gathering took place at the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region’s Public Outreach Centre in Qualicum Beach.
“We never had an MLA who was so committed to helping the environment and supporting those who work to protect it,” said Joanne Sales, executive director of Broombusters. "Walker was an exceptional MLA who took part regularly in countless activities of local environmental groups. He wasn’t afraid to dig in and get his hands dirty helping with broombusting, counting fish, planting trees, removing ivy, or whatever needed to be done. He made his office boardroom available for meetings, he and his staff helped with writing grants, developing promotional materials, and Adam even arranged a meeting at his office with the Minister of Environment Heyman, so we could directly address our collective concerns."
The group gifted Walker with a bigleaf maple plate carved by Qualicum Beach artist Lorne Hussey. The gathering gave an opportunity for MISC members to thank Walker and wish him well in his future endeavours.
MISC members include: Arrowsmith Naturalists, Broombusters, Friends of French Creek Conservation Society, Friends of the Qualicum Beach Forest, Hamilton Wetlands and Forest Preservation Society, Brown Property Preservation Society, Mid-Vancouver Island Habitat Enhancement Society, Nanaimo Area Land Trust, Qualicum Beach Streamkeepers, and the Save Estuary Land Society.
