Englishman River discussion set for Saturday

Key watercourse will be subject of event

A discussion seeking to improve the current management of the Englishman River watershed takes place this weekend.

The Mid Vancouver Island Habitat Enhancement Society (MVIHES) is hosting the discussion to share visions and help address water, fish, wildlife and watershed concerns.

The last discussion in February involved input from biologists, foresters and a ground water expert.

A press release from MVIHES stated ground water in many local aquifers has declined by four metres and according to preliminary modeling this will contribute to an eight per cent decline in flow for the Englishman River.

It also states that Steelhead trout numbers are very low.

The event takes place Sat., April 9 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Shelly Centre, 186 Shelly Rd. in Parksville.
