Journeys can offer us joy

Life is a journey, an adventure that we are all a part of. Sometimes life is easy and we sail along with few concerns. Other times life seems just too hard.

Life is a journey, an adventure that we are all a part of. Sometimes life is easy and we sail along with few concerns. Other times life seems just too hard.

It is then that family and friends surround us and offer support and care.

We moved my Dad to a long-term care facility in Vancouver a few weeks ago. My sister lives about 45 minutes away, so she is able to visit often. I know Dad is safe and well cared for in his new home.

A friend of mine just moved her Mom out her home of 20 years. It was not a planned move, in fact it could be said that she fled, full of fear. I would like to say that this is an unusual occurrence, however my experience tells me differently. The hardest part to understand is that this kind, gentle woman fled from her youngest child.

We would like to think that all families are kind and loving.

We depend on that, and yet sometimes family lets us down. Every person deserves respect and kindness.

If we look at the example that Jesus gave us we will see that he offered compassion, justice and love to everyone.

If the care you are receiving is not loving and kind, tell someone. There are people around you that will help. There is no need to be afraid. Our community has many resources, your local church is one of them and they will be able to help you find others.

If you are not offering kind, loving support to your family members, then make changes right now. Get some help to change if you need it.

Our journeys can offer us joy, security and wholeness when our lives are shared with others who care about us.

It is important to remember that God, who calls us beloved, yearns to accompany each one of us every day, and to that I say — AMEN.
