Qualicum mayor to answer to grandpa

Westbroek welcomes his first grandchild in Vanderhoof

Qualicum Beach mayor Teunis Westbroek has been called many things, some of which he is more than happy to answer to.

One of the names he’ll soon be answering to with a big smile on his face will be ‘grandpa.’

Because of that there’s no point dropping by the mayor’s office in Qualicum Beach for the next couple of weeks, because you would have to look all the way to Vanderhoof to find him.

The visit has nothing to do with municipal business, but rather, is strictly personal. He and wife Jenny are in the Central Interior community to give whatever assistance they can to their daughter, Maraika, who recently gave birth to their first ever grandchild.

Westbroek broke the happy news at the July 9 council meeting.

“I’m now a grandfather,” a beaming Westbroek said.

He plans for the trip to last for a total of 10 days.
