Iritex Pumps and Irrigation Inc. is celebrating the move to their new location at 976 Price Rd. in Errington and the public is invited to the party on Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Kevin Luterbach and his wife Nicole founded Iritex in 2000 and since then the business has been committed to superior customer service and the supply of quality products.

Kevin said when they were located in the Allsbrook Centre they just didn’t have enough space so they had to find a larger complex.

“We did three expansions at our Allsbrook location. We spent the last 10 years looking for a larger site,” he said in a press release. “The new location came up two years ago and we purchased it. The renovation took about a year and we moved in officially on Feb. 1.”

He said they are now excited to show off their new digs and they hope to have a big turnout for their event on May 4 which includes food, demos, raffle prizes and more.

The new facility which has 5,100 square feet for offices and a showroom is situated on one acre of land.

It is easily accessible from the Alberni Highway and the expansive yard has a lot more room for irrigation materials and plenty of parking.

Luterbach said their new home is now big enough for their large inventory and wide range of products ensuring they have what customers require for their pump or irrigation projects.

Iritex also offers a design service for residential, commercial or agricultural projects.

The Errington Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) will be showing off one of its two brand-new fire trucks at the Iritex event.

Their new trucks are the only ones in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area to have compressed air foam systems (CAFS) which have the ability to knock down a fire quickly and use less water.

With more seating capacity, the custom cabs in the new trucks allow more volunteers to get to a fire call at the outset. The new state-of-the-art engines will serve the community for the next 20 years.

The EVFD will have information on fire-smarting your property including the effectiveness of roof top sprinkler units.

The threat of wildfires may not be on your radar yet but it is not too early to start preparing for forest fire season.

A sprinkler system gets water to a house’s rooftop and surrounding areas where it’s needed most during wildfire emergencies.

One problem fire fighters face while battling an urban interface wildfire is having the manpower to protect homes from windblown embers.

A structure protection system that includes sprinkler heads and hoses can be mounted onto roof-tops and gutters to increase the humidity level of the immediate area and improve the chances of a successful defense of your property.

In the face of an advancing wildfire, a structure with a properly implemented FireSmart Program in combination with an operational exterior rooftop sprinkler system has a survival probability of above 90 per cent.

Luterbach said one of the custom rooftop sprinkler stands they carry lays flat or can swivel to straddle a roof peak which helps protect your home by putting out ambers and hot ash if they were to land on your roof during a fire.
