Trees Restaurant and Bakery opened in Whiskey Creek in November.

The owner of the new Trees Restaurant and Bakery (3680 Alberni Hwy) says it is getting lots of positive customer feedback, as it nears three months of business.

Co-owner Ted Spence said he wanted the menu to be as similar as possible to the original Trees Diner, located at 1385 Alberni Hwy.

Since the new spot is a bakery and has limited kitchen space, Spence said they decided to focus on two things, pizza and sandwiches.

“We decided panini sandwiches because we could replicate the Trees menu as far as the most popular sandwiches and just do them in a slightly new form,” he said, and added customers will find the same soups and chowders from the original.

“I think overall as a business it’s going great,” Spence said.

The new location opened in November and is next door to the site of the old Whiskey Creek Co-op gas station, which was destroyed by a fire in 2021.

According to Bruce Buckingham of Mid-Island Co-op, there is no estimate yet for when the new gas station will open.
