Jazz guitarist plays GZAL in Parksville

Jazz guitarist Howard Alden is coming to Ground Zero Acoustic Lounge on Oct. 27, and will be joined by violinist Kit Eakle.

Jazz guitarist Howard Alden is coming to Ground Zero Acoustic Lounge on Oct. 27, and will be joined by violinist Kit Eakle.

Alden has payed with Dizzy Gillespie and Stéphane Grappelli, among other musicians in the New York jazz scene.

This is a special performance for Eakle, who used to teach music at Parksville Elementary School. This will be his first show since 2013.

Eakle’s DjangoSphere project will be featured, which explores the music of two jazz greats. Audience members can expect compositions by Thelonious Monk and Gypsy Jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, along with some originals and familiar jazz standards by Duke Ellington and others.

Doors at 6:30 p.m., show at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and can be purchased at gzalounge.com or at Fireside Books (114 Middleton Ave., Parksville.)
