Game camera footage helped the Oceanside RCMP quickly recover a travel trailer stolen from a property in Horne Lake.

According to a news release, police received a report on Feb. 3 about the trailer being stolen. They were provided the make, model, description and licence plate but investigators also obtained the game camera footage showing a suspect vehicle leaving the area.

Images were sent to Island RCMP detachments, and an officer located the vehicle in Nanaimo.

Oceanside RCMP executed a search warrant at a Nanaimo residence on Feb. 6, which led to the recovery of the trailer later the same day.

This investigation highlights the value of surveillance video in identifying crime suspects, said Cpl. Mike Kane of the Oceanside RCMP General Investigation Section. The game camera footage allowed police to quickly identify a suspect vehicle and to provide that image to neighbouring detachments in real time. The surveillance images and the keen observations of the Nanaimo officer assisted us greatly in this investigation.

While no charges have been laid at this time, the investigation continues and police said the trailer owner was grateful to have their property recovered.
