A new federal government is expected to be named Monday night, as Canada’s 2025 snap election gets underway.
The main parties vying for the 343 seats in the House of Commons are Mark Carney’s Liberals, Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives, Jagmeet Singh’s New Democrats, Elizabeth May and Jonathan Pednault’s Greens, Yves-François Blanchet’s Bloc Quebecois and Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party of Canada.
Polls are open in British Columbia from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. PST.

To find out your local poll location, visit the Elections Canada website and type in your street address. Alternatively, Canadians can look at their voter registration card. Voters can only visit their specified polling location.
Candidates running in Courtenay-Alberni are (alphabetical order): Brian Cameron (Liberal Party), Thomas Gamble (People's Party of Canada), Gord Johns (NDP), Teresa Knight (The Animal Protection Party), Chris Markevich (Green Party), Kris McNichol (Conservative Party) and Jesse Musial (Christian Heritage Party of Canada).
Voters can find the address for their assigned polling station on the back of their voter information card, by visiting elections.ca or by calling 1-800-463-6868.
To vote, electors must prove their identity and address. The list of accepted ID can be found online. For other questions, visit Elections Canada’s FAQ page.
