Across Canada, April 28 has been designated as the Day of Mourning, a time to honour and remember the 146 workers in British Columbia who lost their lives last year due to workplace injury or disease.
To commemorate, the City of Parksville flag is at half-mast and encourages residents to take a moment to remember those who have lost their lives on the job. Some ways to acknowledge the day, according to a press release:
- Leave a note for a fallen family member or co-worker on the Day of Mourning Dedication Wall
- Watch a livestream of the Day of Mourning ceremony taking place in Vancouver at 10.30 a.m.
- Observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m.
You may also choose to attend the live ceremony hosted by Nanaimo - Duncan and District Labour Council at the waterfront gazebo in the Parksville Community Park beginning at 5 p.m.
