A Parksville Qualicum Beach resident reported losing $2,000, responding to a phone call about a virus and the need for the party to have remote access to their computer to fix on June 26. The thief gained access to resident’s banking information and passwords.
The incident was among 285 complaints received by the Oceanside RCMP the week of June 24 to June 30. There were three cases of shoplifting, eight cases of fraud, nine cases of lost property and eight cases of found property.

A residential break-and-enter was reported in the 7900 block of Island Highway West in Bowser, on June 26. The same day, a black EVO electric bike was reported stolen in the 1200 block of Taylor Road, Coombs, on June 26. Fire damage was reported to a picnic table and portable washroom in the community park in the first block of Henry Morgan Drive in Bowser, also on June 26.
On June 27 an estimated $2,000 worth of tools were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 2200 block of Foxrun Place in Nanoose Bay, on June 27. The same day, a complaint was received of persons dropping cigarette butts in the decorative bark mulch in the 1000 block of Lee Road East in Parksville.
On June 28, a business break-and-enter was reported, with six feet of copper wire and a water pump stolen with damage to an exterior fence in the 900 block of Chatsworth Road in Qualicum Beach. One day later, a nighttime trespasser was reported at a pump house located in the 2300 block of Island Highway East in Nanoose Bay,.
A purse with contents was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the area of Bowlby Road and Matterson Road in Errington on June 30. The same day, produce was reported stolen and damage noted to fencing at the community garden along the Jensen Walkway in Parksville.
