Emergency Preparedness Expo comes to Qualicum Beach Sept. 7

A mobile earthquake simulator is part of the activities planned for the Emergency Preparedness Expo set for Sept. 7 in Qualicum Beach.

An Emergency Preparedness Expo is set for Sept. 7 at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is a partnership between the Regional District of Nanaimo, the Town of Qualicum Beach and the City of Parksville, according to a news release by Emergency Management Oceanside.

Highlights will include the Quake Cottage earthquake simulator, free workshops on personal preparedness, FireSmart, food security and age and health factors for preparedness. A short documentary about the West Coast Tsunami will be screened, titled Tsunami 11th Relative.

There will be fun activities and prizes for children and door prizes such as a portable power station, an emergency Readywise 120 freeze dried entrees package and an emergency radio.

The Qualicum Beach Civic Centre is located at 747 Jones St.
