The Nanoose Bay Activities and Recreation Society will receive additional funds for the Nanoose Place Community Centre upgrades.
The project, which entails roof repairs, upgrades to the sound system and replacement of the kitchen and bathroom, was awarded another $12,000 allocated from the Electoral Area E (Nanoose Bay) Community Work Funds. Earlier this year, the project was granted $120,000.
At the board meeting late in July, Area E director Bob Rogers made the motion to provide another $12,000 to the NBARS.
"We identified specific projects, some of them were under budget and didn't require the full funds," said Rogers. "It's important for the society to have the access to some of these funds to do a well-considered capital improvements on some aspects within the Nanoose Place, which is really the Area E community centre and the point of location of many of our community activities. So, it allows the society to have a better opportunity to adjust some of the spending of those dollars in conjunction with direction from RDN staff, ensuring that it meets UBCM (Union of BC Municipalities) and Community Work standards for capital projects."
NBARS is a non-profit organization that oversees operation of the community centre. It has been raising funds for repairs and improvements to the two buildings under its care — Nanoose Place and a second building which houses a day care.
