Two major recreation projects have been approved by Parksville city council for 2026 as part of the 2024 to 2029 financial plan process.

The lacrosse box in the community park will get a refurbishment and expansion in 2026, with an estimated cost of $750,000, according to a presentation by director of finance Jedha Holmes.

The nearby sports courts, currently used for both tennis and pickleball, will be converted to dedicated pickleball courts for $40,000, with the two clubs indicating they will cover $20,000 of that cost.

The rest of the funding will be drawn from the Growing Communities Fund.

During its Nov. 18 meeting, council unanimously approved a motion to include both projects in the financial plan, with an amendment that the pickleball clubs will contribute $20,000.

Coun. Amit Gaur also noted the pickleball user groups have said they can contribute financially on an ongoing basis.

Dedicated tennis courts are located in Springwood Park.
