Nightmare on Elm Street: Thieves target 4 vehicles in Qualicum Beach

Thieves continue to keep the Oceanside RCMP busy.

An off-road motorcycle was reported stolen in the 3300 block of Island Highway West in Qualicum Beach on Aug. 26. It was recovered later that day. in Parksville on Aug. 28, a residential break-and-enter was reported in the 200 block of Fourneau Way. On Aug. 29, a red mobility scooter model Fortress 1700 was reported stolen in the 2900 block of Island Highway West, also in Qualicum Beach. A day later, an attempted vehicle theft was reported in the 600 block of Rupert Road East in Qualicum Beach.

On Aug. 31, a black-and-teal Marin bicycle with 29-inch wheels and a black-and-grey Marin bicycle with 26-inch wheels were reported stolen from a campsite in Rathtrevor Provincial Park in Parksville. The same day, money was reported stolen from four unlocked vehicles in the 200 block of Elm Street in Qualicum Beach. Also Aug. 31, Tiffany sunglasses, two evening gowns, medication and binoculars were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 500 block of Willow Road in Qualicum Beach.

On Sept. 1, a grey Norco Ryde bicycle and a grey-and-pink Lynx bicycle was reported stolen from a campsite in the 900 block of Island Highway West in Parksville. The same day, a residential break-and-enter was reported with a Fender Base amp and assorted tools stolen in the 2200 block of Bonnington Drive in Nanoose Bay. A red dolly was reported stolen from a property in the 100 block of Sunningdale Road in Qualicum Beach, also Sept. 1.

During the week of Aug. 26 to Sept. 1, Oceanside RCMP received 301 complaints. Some of the other incidents included:

On Aug. 30, a utility door was reported damaged at a sports field building in the 400 block of Despard Avenue in Parksville. On Aug. 27, Canada Post mailboxes were reported vandalized in the area of 5200 Island Highway West in Qualicum Beach. No entry was gained. Trail lights were reported damaged along a waterfront pathway in the 1600 block of Stroulger Road in Nanoose Bay on Aug. 28.

On Aug. 29, a resident was scammed out of $500 responding to a phone call purporting that a fraudulent bank account was opened and that they would have to purchase gift cards to rectify the situation. The same day, eggs were reported thrown at a property in the 500 block of Panorama Place in Parksville. On Sept. 1, a vehicle was reported vandalized with a window smashed in the 500 block of Bay Avenue in Parksville on September 1.
