Oceanside RCMP deal with vandals, fraud, car thieves, vehicle fires

Five reported cases of money fraud, 23 calls for wellness checks and 14 false alarm calls were among the 342 complaints received by Oceanside RCMP during the week of June 15 to June 23.

On June 15, nighttime trespassers were reported in the 200 block of Hirst Avenue in Parksville. The same day, a business break-and-enter was reported, with two suspects arrested on site in the area of Church Road and Alberni Highway.

On June 16, a brown 1996 Toyota Corolla, B.C. licence plate VF552F, was reported stolen from a property in the Horne Lake area. The same day, a brown Trek 3-speed bicycle and an orange children’s Trek Roscoe were reported stolen in the 200 block of Higson Crescent in Qualicum Beach. On June 17, a large hand-crafted planter was reported stolen in the 400 block of Morison Avenue in Parksville.

A facility in Bowser was reported vandalized, with damage to a gazebo, in the 7000 block of Island Highway West on June 17. Two days later, a door to a residential building was reported damaged in the 100 block of Alberni Highway in Parksville.

On June 20 in Qualicum Beach, a vehicle was reported torched in the 3900 block of Alberni Highway. The same day, a vehicle was reported vandalized with the gas tank drilled in the 100 block of Fifth Avenue East.

A security camera was reported stolen in the area of Rupert Road and Jones Street in Qualicum Beach on June 21. A subsequent investigation resulted in the property being returned the next day. One day later, a number of Canada Post boxes were reported damaged in the area of Hamilton Avenue and Farrell Drive in Parksville. On June 23, a section of perimeter fence belonging to the community garden was reported cut along the Jensen Walkway.

Several items were found in Parksville during the week. File 2024-5540: A black case with a cellular phone inside was found on Corfield Street on June 15. File 2024-5633: A pair of snowshoes were found in the 100 block of Craig Street on June 18. File 2024-5688: A sum of money was found in the area of McMillian Street and Harrison Avenue on June 19.
