A captain with Parksville Fire Rescue was recently recognized for his years of service.

Capt. Mark Adelborg received his Fire Service BC Long Service Medal during city council's Feb. 3 meeting.

“This medal is awarded to those who have at least 25 years of paid or volunteer fire service in a community/structure fire department as a structure firefighter, to recognize their dedication and long service,” Mayor Doug O'Brien said.

Adelborg started with the Coombs-Hilliers Volunteer Fire Department in 1997, before relocating to Parksville and joining PFR in 2000, said Fire Chief Marc Norris.

“Mark is one of our senior company officers and his dedication, in particular to training our members, is a credit to our department and to our community," Norris said. "We are truly lucky to benefit from his membership.”

The service award was presented on behalf of the Fire Commissioner of BC.
