The City of Parksville will remove the concrete beach access ramp in Parksville Community Park which has collapsed and is now a safety and environmental concern.
The ramp will be decommissioned and the space rehabilitated with support from a qualified environmental professional to plan and undertake most of the work, according to a news release by the city.
"The city is required to obtain provincial permits for removal of the ramp located on the foreshore," the release stated. "However, we hope to be able to remove the upper portion of the ramp soon."
In the meantime, the area near the ramp has been cordoned off for the safety of the public, the city said.
The cost of this rehabilitation work is eligible for provincial Local Government Climate Action Partnership funding.
