A meeting on public safety is scheduled for April 15 at Nanoose Place Community Centre.
The event is organized by a group called the Oceanside Alliance because of concerns related to a rehabilitation-type facility planned for Kaye Road in Nanoose Bay.
The facility, which has not yet opened, will be geared towards assisting people leaving correctional facilities, the homeless, those addicted to drugs and alcohol and the disabled, and run by the Delancey Street BC Foundation, a peer recovery program.
Two recent unrelated home invasions have also been brought up in social media posts advising of the upcoming meeting, but the PQB News has been unable to make contact with the meeting's organizers.
Delancey Street BC said, in a statement posted online, that "a growing campaign of disinformation has emerged surrounding the Delancey Street BC project in Nanoose Bay. This campaign is being driven by a group of individuals who have intentionally chosen to mislead the public through deceptive means, including the creation of a website that illegally uses the names of organizations and individuals without consent."
Candidates in the federal election have been invited, although the event will be held the same night as an all-candidates forum in Port Alberni.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Nanoose Place Community Centre is located at 2925 Northwest Bay Rd.
