Brant geese are making their annual stopover in Parksville Qualicum Beach beaches en route to the Alaska Peninsula.

The popular birds are expected to fly in the region through April 30.

To ensure their well-being, no dogs are being allowed on the Qualicum Beach public beach, on-leash or off-leash. The same goes in the City of Parksville where dogs are now banned at Rathtrevor Beach and Parksville Bay Beach through April 30.

The Brant geese that fly into the area are resting at the tide line and replenishing their energy and are especially vulnerable to disturbance by dogs.

In Qualicum Beach, a fine of $100 may be issued as per the Animal Control Bylaw.

Dogs are permitted on the street level walkway, on-leash.
