The Regional District of Nanaimo is celebrating Water to Earth Month with the community and its partners through in-person and virtual events and activities.
World Water Day, with its theme of Glacier Preservation, kicks off the celebration on March 22, and Earth Day, with its theme of Our Power, Our Planet, wraps it up on April 22. These themes are reflected in the many activities the public is invited to participate in during Water to Earth Month.
“This year’s Water to Earth Month highlights the importance of glacial meltwater for the environment and in our daily lives, such as by providing drinking water and sustaining agriculture, and the need to focus on renewable energy for a sustainable future,” said Vanessa Craig, RDN Chair. “We invite residents to come out and learn about simple but effective actions we can take to help protect our shared water resources and the environment, now and for years to come.”
Many events planned during Water to Earth Month, included:
- March 22 - World Water Day guided interpretive walk, Nanaimo River Regional Park
- April 4 - Interpretive walk, Departure Creek
- April 11 - Nanaimo River Watershed and Water Treatment Plant tour
- April 13 - Earth Day Celebration! Come to our biggest Earth Day event to date at Bowen Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Learn about local water resources and environmental stewardship from vendors, information booths, interactive workshops and nature walks!
