The Regional District of Nanaimo is unable to mail out November utility statements due to the ongoing postal strike.

The utility statements usually serve as a final reminder to residents to remit payment for outstanding balances on their utility accounts before Dec. 31.

This current situation will impact approximately 2,200 utility accounts, out of a total of 18,123 utility accounts served by the RDN.

Impacted utility accounts with outstanding balances prior to the September billing cycle should have received a reminder statement between late September and early October.

Residents are advised to email the finance department at Finance@rdn.bc.ca if they would like an electronic copy of their November statement or call 250-390-6528 for more information.

By statutory requirement, any utility balance unpaid on Dec. 31 each year will be transferred to the Ministry of Finance, Property Tax Arrears, where interest will accrue beginning Jan. 1 of the following year.

The RDN cannot accept any utility payments for 2024 after Dec. 31, 2024.
