The Pop-Up Depot recycling collection events in Parksville Qualicum Beach have become a valuable and popular service to residents in the region.
Recycle BC has acknowledged the importance of the pop-up events in the region and has extended the series until the end of the 2025. It is in partnership with the Parksville Community Centre Society, who hosts the events held at 1080 Industrial Way, Parksville on select Saturdays between now and December from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“This is great news for the public and the environment,” said Duane Round, president, PCCS. “These events will save residents from driving to Nanaimo or sending this material to the landfill and will help move us a little closer towards Net Zero Waste in our community.”
The pop-up events accepts materials that are not allowed in the curbside collection provided by the Regional District of Nanaimo. The materials include flexible plastic packaging, white and coloured foam packaging, non-deposit glass bottles and jars, paper packaging and cardboard.
The upcoming dates of pop-up depot are: June 14, June 28, July 12, July 26. Aug. 9, Aug. 23, Sept. 6, Sept. 20, Oct. 4, Oct. 18, Nov. 8, Nov. 22, Dec. 6 and Dec. 20.
“Recycle BC is excited to continue to offer pop-up recycling events in 2025 for residents of Parksville, Qualicum Beach, and surrounding areas through our partnership with the PCCS,” said Brendan McShane, Director, Collection, Recycle BC. “These events offer a closer recycling solution for depot-only materials, mixed paper, and cardboard and will help keep these materials out of the landfill and our environment.”
