The Regional District of Nanaimo board approved grants for 22 organizations across the northern part of the region.
The value of the grants awarded totals $35,350 and was endorsed by the board at the Nov. 26 board meeting. The funds will be used for a variety of community and recreation-focused projects.
The grants were awarded through two programs: Oceanside Recreation Services Youth Grants (11 to 18 years) and Oceanside Recreation Services Community Grants (all ages). Recreation grants support recreation programs, special events or projects which benefit specific communities in the Oceanside area.
The funding was allocated as follows:
Fall 2024 Oceanside Recreation Services Youth Grant Recipients
– Arrowsmith Community Recreation Association - Youth Basketball for honorariums, advertising, food, equipment $500
– Mid-Island Pensioners & Hobbyist Assoc. (Bradley Centre) - Crafting Community Connection for food, volunteer gift cards and supplies $1,000
– Oceanside Track & Field Club for track hurdles $1,000
– Oceanside Youth Football Association for player equipment $2,500
– Ravensong Aquatic Club for coaching fees and new equipment $1,000

– Arrowsmith Agricultural Association - Coombs Pet Expo for advertising, tent rental and equipment $1,000
– Arrowsmith Community Recreation Association - Adult Floor Hockey for honorarium and hockey gear $950
– BC Cultural Days 2024 - Planning and Funding Committee for equipment rental and supplies $500
– Bowser Elementary School PAC for field trip entrance fees $1,500
– Corcan/Meadowood Resident Association - Halloween event for equipment, decorations, entertainment and food $2,500
– Errington Elementary School PAC for Grade 3 swimming lesson costs $1,500
– Errington War Memorial Hall Association - Grandparent/Grandchildren Marimba Camp for wages, posters and promotional video completion $1,100
– Forward House Community Society - Cultural Outings Project for activity costs $1,000

– Sandy Shores Skating Club - Learn to Skate for advertising and coaching $2,500
– The Wonderful World of Books for books and supplies $2,500
– VanIsle Walking Soccer for new soccer equipment and wages $800
