Qualicum Beach town staff has been advancing council's strategic initiative by conducting a comprehensive review of the town's policies.

In doing so, director of corporate services and deputy CAO, Heather Svensen, indicated of the approximately 125 existing policies, 13 are no longer relevant due to factors such as changes in legislation, bylaw adoption and local government best practices and legal precedent.

Svensen recommended council rescind these policies during their regular meeting on April 16. It unanimously passed.

"This is an issue of duplication of effort and I can imagine it being something that is well worth getting rid of, the detritus which no longer is actually legally enforceable," said Coun. Scott Harrison. "So, kudos for the staff for doing the work."
