Members of Cascadia Martial Arts Parksville were in fine form at the recent Korean Consul General Cup Tournament in Richmond.
The team competed in taekwondo patterns events, known as poomsae in Korean or in karate referred to as kata. They engaged in a variety of fighting patterns that featured taekwondo techniques.
Master Wendy Wikins commended her students for making an impressive mark at the tournament.
"They have been training rigorously, and their hard work was evident in the ring," said Wilkins.
Cascadia entered members in the recreational divisions and also in the black belt divisions.
In the recreational youth categories, Lael Kim and Alexis Toews each collected a gold medal with Laina Wissell, Niels Kronberg and Solomon Bullock each earning a silver medals. In the U30 division, Lina Lin also finished in first place to bring home a gold medal.
In the high-performance black belt division, cadets Phaedra Wheeler, Lily Watts and Ben Zelizney didn't reach the podium but each recorded personal best scores. In the pair competition, Watts and Zelizney also garnered personal best score.
Team Cascadia will now shifts its focus to the 2025 BC Team Trials, scheduled to take place in Vancouver in January.
