Oceanside Minor Baseball honours young umpires

Winter Ball registration is now on

Oceanside Minor Baseball Association recently honoured two of their young umpires.

Tracy Balfour, 12, was named junior umpire of the year by the OMBA. Despite her young age, she has shown impressive understanding of the game's rules, according to the OMBA. She has an outstanding demeanour and has developed exceptional game management skills.

The senior umpire of the year award was awarded to Evan Boulet, who has been an invaluable mentor to the OMBA's junior umpires. The OMBA stated Boulet provided guidance with his calm and approachable presence and is always ready to step up in a pinch. He worked tirelessly on the field, and maintained great rapport with both coaches and players.

Special mentions were accorded to umpire-in-chief Brad Jones, who was recognized for his leadership and unwavering commitment to the OMBA's umpire program.

Mentoring and developing supervisor Will Chambers was also honoured for his dedication to mentoring and supervising the OMBA's youth umpires and has fostered their growth and confidence.

OMBA is also getting ready for Winter Ball every Friday, from Jan. 10 to March 7, at Arbutus Meadows. Registration is available for Tadpole to Bantam divisions.

Winter ball is a skills-based training program designed to progress skills regardless of ability. If you are just starting out or a longtime player Winter Ball will challenge you and prepare you for the upcoming spring season.
