The Oceanside Track and Field Club is raising funds for new equipment that will be used once the new rubberized track at Ballenas Secondary School is completed in the spring of 2025.
Up to $10,000 of donated items from local businesses are being auctioned by the OTFC, which is launching a Christmas Silent Auction that would run for five days starting Monday, Dec. 2 at 9 a.m. It will end on Friday, Dec. 6 at 9 p.m.
OTFC director Mark Desvaux indicated most of their equipment is now old. Proceeds from the silent auction will be used to purchase new throwing equipment such as javelins and other field equipment, new hurdles and a high jump that includes mat transportation. As well, the OTFC want to start a fund for a new hammer cage.
Desvaux said they are grateful to all their donors for supporting the silent auction with so many Christmas gifts. They also offered thanks in advance to the community for bidding on items to help them raise funds for much-needed equipment for athletes, both in the track club and in schools.
The online silent auction can be accessed via the OFTC website at oceansidetrackfield.ca.
