The Parksville Curling Club will host a high-level event, the Parksville Double Doubles Bonspiel, featuring international curlers.
The mixed bonspiel takes place Nov. 15 to Nov. 17 and will have teams from Taiwan, India, New Zealand, Philippines, United States and competitive teams from Alberta and British Columbia.
The international teams are using this event as a tuneup for the World Mixed Doubles qualification event in Dumfries, Scotland, Dec. 2 to Dec. 7. They will be vying for a spot in the World Mixed Doubles Championship.
For Canadian teams, they are competing to earn points toward a spot in the Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Olympic Trials, Dec. 30, 2024 to Jan. 4, 2025.
The Parksville Curling Club pair competing in the bonspiel are April Gale-Seixeiro and husband Steve Seixeiro. Nanaimo Curling Club has also entered a doubles pair of Debbie Erdos and Keith Ainsley.
At the same time, a parallel recreational open doubles bonspiel will be held, bringing in eight teams from Seattle, Vancouver, and the mid-Island. Local teams from Parksville Curling Club include Ann Fyfe and Dale Ksyniuk; Sharon MacLeod and Greg Pearce; Donna Lachance and Bob Lachance; and Kim Beaudry and Bruce Beaudry.
The public is welcome to come and watch all games at Parksville Curling Club, located at 220 Corfield St N. Admission is free.
Competitive division games will be held on Friday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m, and on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Recreational division games will be held on Friday, Nov. 15 at 5:30 p.m., and on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Playoff games for both divisions will be on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Games will also be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/@ParksvilleCurling.
