There are many reasons for the current global supply chain disruptions: staff shortages in manufacturing facilities and among transport workers; rigorous isolation protocols at overseas factories; extreme weather events; even that container ship stuck in the Suez Canal in May 2021.

Some people have been forced to wait six to 12 months for a new couch, mattress waits are still one to two weeks, but savvy shoppers can still avoid major delays.

1. Shop Canadian-made

“By ordering stock ahead of time and carrying primarily BC- and Canadian-made products, M&N Mattress and Sofa has faster delivery than most other retailers on Vancouver Island,” says Mark Nagra, owner of M&N Mattress and Sofa Gallery in Parksville. “Apparently, we have more Palliser arriving than all other BC dealers. We have pre-ordered stock well ahead of time.”

Many (though not all) of the world’s current supply chain delays are exclusive to materials and products travelling from overseas. Buying BC furniture and mattresses is a great way to avoid delays and support the local economy!

2. Develop local relationships

Building a relationship with a local shop is a great way to troubleshoot potential delays — family-run businesses are often much more flexible than large corporations. Mark Nagra also builds long-term relationships with furniture manufacturers (he’s been in the industry for over three decades) so when the unexpected happens he’s still able to offer great selection at M&N.

“We were in a pickle on a Saturday afternoon and Googled ‘mattress store near me,’” wrote one online reviewer. “My husband and I came into M&N, let the team know of our situation and we needed a mattress to sleep on this evening. The team was so very helpful letting us know about their stock and what are needs were. We tried a couple mattresses and agreed on one. They discounted it for us and had it delivered to our house only hours later and their team took the old one away. Impressed with their quick and easy service — would highly recommend.”

M&N Mattress and Sofa Gallery has an impressive 4.9 star rating on Google, with 284 reviews. On the Better Business Bureau, they have a 4.96 rating with 260 reviews and an A+ rating.

3. Shop what’s in-stock

“At M&N we make sure that we always have a great selection of in-stock sofas, chairs, power recliners, cabinet beds, mattresses and adjustable bed bases,” Mark says.

M&N has been proactive throughout the pandemic in collecting a wide selection of furniture, so there’s always lots of stock on hand for customers to take home right away. And if they don’t have exactly what you need?

“If we don’t already have them in stock, our mattresses are delivered in two weeks or less — for any size. And every purchase includes white-glove delivery and set-up,” Mark says. “We have an excellent selection of solid wood bedroom suites in store, and our suppliers can deliver special orders within four to eight weeks.”
