VIREB President Kaye Broens invites those with questions about home buying and selling to the Real Estate Consumer Conference at Beban Park Social Centre May 11.

If the recent changes in mortgage rules and the housing market have you wondering what’s happening in mid-Island real estate, the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board has planned an event just for you!

At the Real Estate Consumer Conference May 11, learn all about buying and selling a home from industry experts, including real estate expert Tony Joe, mortgage lenders, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, and BC Assessment. Even better, the event is free, and you’ll have a chance to win one of five Google Home voice-activated systems!

“With the recent changes, it’s a good time for this kind of event. It should really be called ‘Home Buying and Selling 101,’” says VIREB President Kaye Broens.

“While it’s important to use a Realtor when buying or selling your home, because we understand the process from start to finish and know what to look for, this event isn’t about the Realtors. We’ve designed this to educate the consumer.”

The Financing Panel welcomes representatives from a chartered bank, credit union CMHC and others who will discuss the new mortgage stress test’s effect on how much buyers can borrow, and answer other questions you likely have around financing. Mortgage approvals will vary according to lenders, buyers and even individual properties, so there’s a lot of information to share, Broens notes. “It’s going to be really insightful for a lot of people looking at buying, whether they’re eyeing their first home or their fifth.”

Buying? Selling? We’ve got you! Experienced Vancouver Island Realtor Joe will walk audience members through both the buying and selling processes. “Tony is a sensational speaker and will offer some great information,” Broens says.

BC Assessment’s Natalie Crimp and Pershing Sun, a senior economics analyst with CMHC, round out the speakers.

A half-hour question-and-answer session is also scheduled at the end for any questions you didn’t have answered through the day.

Guests are welcome to drop in to the events they’re interested in or stay for the whole day.

“It’s going to be a great event and full of information,” Broens says.

Mark your calendars!
