When Mark Nagra first opened M+N Furniture and Mattress 20 years ago the store did carry both mattresses and sofas, but when they moved to a new location with limited space Mark made the choice to focus on only mattresses and bedroom furniture. His customers didn’t let it stay that way for long.
“We brought back sofas because our customers wanted the same level of quality and service for their sofa, loveseat, chair and sofabed needs as they were getting for their mattress purchases, and they trusted M&N to provide that. We weren’t necessarily looking to expand, but we wanted to keep serving our customers’ needs,” Mark says.
Customers come to Mark and his staff because they trust their knowledge, they love the service, and they want to continue dealing with an award-winning store. So M+N Mattress and Sofa rekindled longstanding relationships with local sofa manufacturers and they haven’t looked back.
No tariff problems on Canadian-made products
Mark has always been committed to supporting local manufacturers — what he can’t source in BC, he orders from trusted businesses in other parts of Canada — and that loyalty has served him well through the upheaval of the past few years.
“This year’s tariffs on reclining sofas and chairs caused significant disruptions for furniture stores who ordered stock from China, plus the supply chain issues that have affected almost every industry. For us, we’re lucky that our sofas were Canadian-made already,” Mark says. “Many stores have cancelled their orders from China because of the expensive tariffs, and that’s increased demand for Canadian-made reclining sofas and chairs as well as sofabeds. But we have good relationships with those manufacturers, plus a large warehouse of stock, so we can often deliver within a day or two. That’s key during a time when there are supply chain issues.”
