Through March 31, Parry Gallagher’s Coombs Junction Furniture will donate $50 from every purchase over $999.99 (pre-tax) to the Oceanside Hospice Society.

It’s truly a win-win for customers and the community at Coombs Junction Furniture & Mattress this month.

Through March 31, owner Parry Gallagher and the Coombs Junction Furniture team are offering 10 per cent off all sale prices. But more than that, they’ll also donate $50 from every purchase over $999.99 (pre-tax) to the Oceanside Hospice Society, which provides essential, end-of-life care to individuals in the community.

The initiative couldn’t come at a better time.

“As we approach the end of yet another month living with COVID-19, the pandemic continues to impact just about every aspect of our daily lives. The Oceanside Hospice Society continues to make adjustments to our operations to find new and safe ways to serve those in our community who are facing end of life, or grieving the loss of a loved one,” says Shianne Carswell, Fund Development Coordinator with the Oceanside Hospice Society.

In addition to palliative care, the Hospice team provides grief counselling support – currently by phone or by Zoom – and offers a medical equipment loan program, delivering and setting up hospital beds, commodes, walkers, bath transfer benches and more so clients can stay in the comfort of their own homes for as long as possible, and stay connected to their loved ones, Carswell says.

Community support is vital for essential Hospice services

Like most non-profits, Oceanside Hospice had to cancel all their annual fundraisers for 2020, and those cancellations will likely continue in 2021 as well. The impact of that is significant and underlines the importance of community initiatives.

“We rely greatly on community support and donations to fund our programs and services, so the efforts of businesses like Coombs Junction Furniture to find new ways of giving back to the community in the midst of this pandemic is hugely inspiring and we are so grateful for their support,” Carswell says.

For Gallagher, there was no question about the store’s support of Oceanside Hospice at this time.

“Our local hospice is community-funded and volunteer-driven and few people here in the Parksville-Qualicum Beach area have gone untouched by the work they do. We couldn’t see that work impacted simply because the pandemic made traditional fundraisers impossible,” Gallagher says. “We wanted to do what we can to help.”

This latest initiative follows November’s Remembrance Day-inspired initiative for the local Legion which raised more than $2,700 for local branches!
