Have you ever vacationed at a resort that dazzled you at first, but the longer you stayed the more mistakes you noticed? A door handle that came off in your hand, a light that didn’t work or a front desk phone call that wasn’t answered? Attention-to-detail is a sign of strong service, and at the new resort-style retirement community, Berwick Parksville, no detail is swept under the rug.

“It’s been exciting to watch all these special features take shape over the last few months!” says Corinna Ludovici, Community Relations Manager for Berwick Parksville. “There’s no place like home, and so we’re putting in every effort to help our residents feel at home when they start to move in later this spring.”

Ludovici says she was stopped in her tracks when she pulled up to work and saw the newly installed architectural feature walls.

“They’re majestic. It’s a grand entrance like nothing I’ve ever seen!”

There’s been lots of construction progress in the Performance Theatre as well. Soon residents will gather there to enjoy large stage productions, community performances and resident-led seminars. Over in the library, one of many fireplaces is hooked up and ready to warm residents planning to snuggle up with a book.

“Not to compete with any of the other Berwick communities, but our library and gym (we call it a Zoom Room) are going to be the biggest of any Berwick! Not only will there be a great selection of fiction and nonfiction books, but there’s also a large harvest table to spread out with research, and a multipurpose space that can be used as spill-over for large events at the pub,” Ludovici says.

The Knight & Castle pub is the heart and soul of Berwick Parksville, opening later this spring.

Knight & Castle Pub

Speaking of the pub, the heart and soul of Berwick Parksville is the Knight & Castle Pub, which has custom light fixtures, stained glass windows and its own kitchen to provide specialty meals.

“We had an Elizabethan Style pool table specially made in England!” Ludovici says. “Creating special and varied spaces encourages community and socialization, not just among residents but with the greater community as well. We want people to be excited to get out and explore.”

Berwick Parksville has designed thoughtful outdoor spaces as well, so residents can enjoy the gorgeous views. There’s an outdoor patio attached to the pub with a stage for outdoor performances. Double pickle ball courts, a turf putting green, grass lawn bowling and a yoga pavilion dot the grounds, and on the sixth floor Top Side Lounge you can take in the mountain and ocean views from one of the highest points in Parksville.

”Tweeds Coffee has an abstract wood patterned ceiling treatment that gives the café extra warmth. In the Bistro, our light fixtures once belonged to the Sultan of Brunei!”
