Parry Gallagher, owner of Coombs Junction Furniture, is supporting the Parksville and Qualicum Legions this month.

World events have once again shone a light on the impacts of war and unrest, and veterans’ efforts throughout the centuries to protect our lives and freedoms, and to preserve peace.

It’s with that in mind that Parry Gallagher and his Coombs Junction Furniture team has committed to supporting local veterans, building on his month-long fundraiser every fall. Throughout April, Parry will donate 10 per cent of all sales on mattresses and mattress sets to the Parksville and Qualicum branches of the Royal Canadian Legion.

“The Legion has been instrumental in supporting military personnel and their families, offering invaluable resources such as affordable housing, career transition counselling and trauma relief,” Parry notes. “Legion members also raise funds to support other local groups, including sports teams, arts organizations, healthcare charities and other nonprofits. We feel it’s important to support their efforts.”

Included in the campaign are quality brands including Stearns & Foster, plus Sealy Canada – and Cocoon by SealyTempur-Pedic and Restonic.

In addition to joining Gallagher in the opportunity to give back to the vital local organization, shoppers can also take advantage of additional savings on select floor models of 15 to 40 per cent.

Working to support Veterans

Through local branches, including those here in the Central Island, and at the provincial and national levels, the Royal Canadian Legion “works to serve Veterans and their dependents, to promote Remembrance and to act in the service of Canada and its communities.”

In addition to the National Poppy and Remembrance Campaign each November, which raises funds for veterans and their families, new military and others who are disadvantaged – a tradition whose roots reach back to the First World War – the Legion is hard at work in local communities.

Beyond the November campaign, the Legion invites the public to support Veterans throughout the year: Consider becoming a Legion member; making a donation to the Legion Foundation BC/Yukon Command or to the Legion’s Poppy Trust Fund at any Legion Branch; volunteering to help veterans; or inviting your local branch to make a presentation to your community group or organization.
