Adventures are better with friends — there’s excitement and buzz around the community as companions share in laughter when looking to plan their itinerary. Residents of the brand new Berwick Parksville have been taking advantage of the full Active Living calendar at the senior living community — with new and old friends, an inspired new journey takes place.

Thrill-seeking on the Malahat Skywalk slide

Have you checked out the beautiful new Malahat Skywalk yet? It’s a bit of a drive if you’re going alone, but residents of Berwick Parksville hopped aboard the Berwick Bus for a relaxing trip (with lunch) to the beautiful attraction. The forest was serene, the views were incredible, and the screams were joyful and loud as a few adventurers enjoyed the big spiral slide. Next month, residents have the opportunity to ride the Mount Washington chairlift for more panoramic views!

Exclusive seminars with the Island’s innovators

Berwick Parksville residents received VIP access to the amazing sand sculptures at Parksville Beach Festival, with a special behind-the-scenes tour with one of the sculptors! When you live at Berwick Parksville you’re connected to all of Vancouver Island’s most talented artists and innovators, bringing exclusive opportunities to learn from the best. This fall, Berwick Parksville welcomes Cheryl Alexander, who will present her documentary, Takaya: Lone Wolf and answer questions about her experiences with this majestic Vancouver Island creature.

Skills for survival, and just for fun

Berwick Parksville is banding together with residents of Berwick by the Lake in Nanaimo to take over a dragon boat! Participants will learn how to paddle before hopping in a large boat to make a splash. Earlier this summer, Brett from Cascadia Martial Arts visited Berwick Parksville to lead a self-defence class. For those who’d prefer a more relaxed skillset, the Berwick Active Living Team organized a trip to Parksville Lawn Bowling Club for lessons, and invited Jenny from Oceanside Art Studio to lead a Paint and Sip event. There’s even wine tasting and beer tasting events at the Knight & Castle Pub, for those who prefer to skip the ‘paint’ and just ‘sip!’

Be transported, without leaving your seat

Berwick Parksville is equipped with first-class amenity spaces that make it easy to host a full calendar of programs. Everyone’s looking forward to the once-a-month themed events like September’s Western Night. The gorgeous theatre is the perfect venue for visiting artists, including a live performance from a Vancouver Island Symphony trio.

“All of our programming begins with resident input, and then our Active Living Team does all the coordination to facilitate everything residents want to experience,” says Jeannine Krefting, Active Living Manager for Berwick Parskville. “We target every aspect of the human spirit when creating our programming — physical, social, intellectual, environmental, emotional, spiritual — to promote an enriching and fulfilling lifestyle.”
