An intimate Christmas Faire happening this weekend is bringing back the sweet and simple days of the past.
It’s the fourth annual Christmas Faire with a Vintage Flair and it will take place at the Eaglecrest Golf Course on Sunday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Mirella Trozzo of Biscotti Di Notte and more in Qualicum Beach is hosting the event which will have over 20 vendors, live swing music and the classic Christmas movie, A Christmas Story.
Entry will be free with a donation to the food bank and Trozzo will be handing out good old fashioned candy canes.
“I just pine for the past,” said Trozzo. “I wish we could go back in time with Christmas and it wouldn’t be so commercialized and I just like the really simple things like candy canes and an old classic movie.”
Shoppers will also have the chance to win two rounds of golf at Eaglecrest during the event.
Vendors include Taylor’s metals from Nanaimo, which makes vintage cutlery into jewelry, Old City Soapworks, Botanical Beads from Qualicum Beach selling vintage inspired jewelry, and Feathered Nest from Parksville which upcycles furniture. Trozzo will be selling her famous biscotti at the event, which is non-traditional and tweaked from an Italian Family Recipe, and her pizzelle, and old fashioned waffle cookie cooked in an iron. There will also be handmade vintage cards, clothing and more.
Trozzo said she puts on the event to give back to the community.
“I think we all need to do our part,” she said. “There are a lot of hungry people in our community.”
The pub will be open for lunch at Eaglecrest Golf Course during the event and Raw Love Catering will have raw food available while North South Bakery and Confectionery will be selling homemade candies and baking.
At another event on December 14 Trozzo will be cooking her pizzelle, which is the oldest cookie in the world. This will take place at What’s Cooking in Qualicum Beach, where Trozzo will have a table set up and will fill the store with the scent of anise and fresh baking from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The store will also be selling the pizzelle irons. The store is located at 1-177 Second Ave W.
