2021 marks coldest December temperatures in 15 years for Parksville Qualicum Beach

Data recorded since 2006 at Qualicum Beach Airport

According to Environment Canada, 2021 has been the coldest December for the Parksville Qualicum Beach region in 15 years.

The online historical data, recorded at Qualicum Beach Airport and only going as far back as 2006, indicated that Tuesday’s (Dec. 28) temperatures were the lowest in 15 years with a high of -3.8 degrees C and a low of -7.1 degrees C.

The second-coldest Dec. 28 occurred in 2015, with a high of 3 Cand a low of -2.2 C.

The warmest recorded temperatures for that day took place in 2011, with a high of 13.2 C and a low of 6.1 C.

As cold as it’s been, Environment Canada forecasts warmer weather leading into the new year, with an average of 1 C predicted for Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022.
