Mark’s Park in Parksville will be 250 trees greener after the annual TD Friends of the Environment Foundation tree planting this Sunday.
Staff and volunteers with the local bank branches invite everyone to join them as part of the foundation’s planting of 40,000 trees across the country this year.
The third annual TD Tree Day is organized by the local employees in coordination with the city and they will be planting a range of seven different mature species including fir, hemlock, big leaf maple, Garry oak and cascara to help counteract some invasive species that are flourishing.
Ray Kasten with the Qualicum Beach branch said “it’s a great way to help improve the environment, have some fun and create a legacy that you can come back to over the years.”
They work with the city on how many trees they can use and the best type of, preferably local species for the location and conditions.
One of 24 sites in the province, Parksville will be among a small group receiving 250 trees, while most get 120.
Volunteers are encouraged to sign up at www.tdtreedays.com or show up at Marks Park (off Finholm) Sunday, Sept. 22 at 9 a.m. The planting will go rain or shine complete with Tim Horton’s snacks and help from a girl guide group.
