Oceanside RCMP responded to two single-vehicle collisions amid snowy and rainy conditions in the early morning of Nov. 2.
Just after midnight, RCMP officers reported approximately two inches of snow on the roadway and a significant amount of rain resulting in pooling water on top of the snow in the Nanoose Bay flats area, according to Sgt. Shane Worth.
One officer on the scene described the road conditions as ‘abysmal’, Worth added.
No life-threatening injuries were reported and both vehicles needed to be towed. One of the incidents involved an RCMP vehicle going off the road in the southbound lane.

“The RCMP vehicle was not an Oceanside RCMP vehicle,” Worth said. “The RCMP vehicle was not responding to a call and was traveling through Oceanside’s area at the time.”
Road conditions were the contributing factor in both of the crashes, Worth added.
More bad weather is on its way to east Vancouver Island, according to Environment Canada, which has issued a special weather statement about an atmospheric river that could bring heavy rain and strong winds to the region Thursday night and Friday.
