Lynne MacFadgen wants to provide this region with "research that has traction" from her new Vancouver Island University outpost in the Parksville civic centre.
MacFadgen is the project manager on VIU's Healthy Aging and Community Engaged Scholarship program. She introduced herself and explained the roles of her office to the Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce at the group's monthly dinner meeting Wednesday night at Deez Bar and Grill.
A long-time health administrator and adult educator, MacFadgen said her office aims to provide research, workshops and educational for and about the region's large senior population and those who will reach that age in the not-too-distant future. How that manifests itself in action MacFadgen did not make clear, but she did say say it would be "research that has traction and makes an impact in our communities."
As is its custom, the chamber will be making a donation to the charity of MacFadgen's choice to express its thanks for her presentation Wednesday.
