Area rife with scam activity

Corporal Richard van der Pol said police continue to receive reports from area residents about e-mail and phone scam activities.

Corporal Richard van der Pol said police continue to receive reports from area residents about e-mail and phone scam activities.

“We receive occasional reports of scam letters and different things being sent out to people,” he said.

“The public should be aware that if they receive things in the mail saying they are the heirs to a large fortune, it probably isn’t true.”

Van der Pol said anyone who receives this type of correspondence, or any of the many other phone, mail and e-mail scams, they should call the PhoneBusters anti-fraud organization at 613-946-2576 or e-mail to consumer.information@ic.gc.ca.
