Birds kill birds

Cats aren't the only ones to blame for songbird deaths in the area

This is in regards to several recent letters to the editor about cats being responsible for killing birds.

Most people do not realize how many birds are killed by other birds.

Crows, ravens, falcons, hawks, owls and eagles all kill other birds. Songbirds make up a large part of the daily diet of falcons and hawks.

Most of these killings are not witnessed by people and any evidence left behind is usually blamed on cats.

Bald Eagles kill ducks, gulls, cormorants, etc.

At present, there are two Merlin falcons residing in Craig Bay and they kill songbirds every day (see photo).
