Canada 150 is the theme for sandcastles this year in Parksville

The Quality Foods Sand Sculpting Competition and Exhibition is set to run July 14 through August 20

Planning for the 2017 Parksville Beach Festival, featuring the Quality Foods Sand Sculpting Competition and Exhibition, is well underway. Set to run July 14 through August 20 alongside Parksville's magnificent beach, the sand sculpting event will once again feature an overarching theme. This year's theme is confirmed: "Canada One-Five-O — Celebrating 150 years".

"Canada's 150th birthday is an excellent backdrop on which to plan Parksville Beach Festival," said Cheryl Dill, president of the Beach Festival Society. " This theme will engage locals and international visitors alike."

International sculptor recruitment is already underway, said the society.
