Police seek anyone with information after a vehicle was found abandoned along the Nanaimo Parkway following a crash early Tuesday morning.

According to a press release, Nanaimo RCMP want help identifying the driver or occupants of an older-model grey, four-door Mazda which was found with “extensive damage” to the driver’s side, roof and windshield at 2 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19. The vehicle was located in a ditch off the Nanaimo Parkway near the Harewood Mines Road overpass, the press release said.

Police say the vehicle appeared to be heading southbound on the parkway and left the roadway, colliding with a tree that was in the ditch.

A search yielded nothing and while investigators located the last known registered owner, it was learned that the vehicle had been sold some time ago and the owner had no knowledge of the current owner’s identity.

If anyone has information on this incident, they are asked to call Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, quoting file No. 2021-2158.
