UPDATED: Car goes airborne off highway in Ladysmith

The single vehicle incident occurred early Sunday morning

A 25-year-old male driver swerved to avoid hitting a deer on the Trans-Canada Highway in Ladysmith early Sunday morning and ended upside down on the railroad.

The single vehicle incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of the highway and Ludlow Road.

Ladysmith Fire Rescue, RCMP and BC Ambulance all responded to the scene.

The car left the highway and took out a boulevard tree, by the roots, and was airborne for approximately 50 feet before it landed on the tracks behind the Black Press building.

“The deer couldn’t be found, however an independent witness corroborated this story, describing how it appeared to him that the brakes locked up and as soon as the wheels hit the curb, the vehicle flipped,” said Cpl Rick Fraser.

Paramedics transported to the driver to hospital but he was not complaining of any injuries.

A tow truck was called in to help with hauling the totalled car off the tracks and up the embankment.
